ENG vs WI 1st T20I: West Indies destructive all-rounder, Andre Russell made a phenomenal comeback in international cricket against England on Tuesday. Russell played a significant role both with the bat and ball to help West Indies register a 4-wicket win over England in the first T20I of the five-match series.
The West Indies all-rounder made his last international appearance in November 2022 before donning the jersey, once again, on Tuesday. He first picked three crucial wickets of Liam Livingstone, Phill Salt, and Rehan Ahmed and returned with impressive figures of 3 for 19 in 4 overs.
England notched a total of 171 runs in the first innings with Salt top-scoring (40 off 20). Russell then chipped in with the bat as he played an unbeaten 29-run knock in 14 balls, helping West Indies chase down the target in 18.1 overs.
Andre Russell’s Short Cameo Carnage
He hit 2 sixes and as many fours during his enterprising knock. One six that he hit off Adil Rashid was, unarguably, the best shot of the game. He picked a wrong un’ and smashed the ball out of the park. The ball hit the top of the scoreboard and then went out of the ground.
The video clip of the same has now been doing the rounds on social media. Here’s a look at that.
Russell was also awarded the player of the match for his all-round contribution in the first game. He, later, disclosed that when he was drafted back into the West Indies’ T20I side for the series, he had dreamt of winning the Man of the Match award.
“Actually, life is so funny. When I got a call-up two weeks back, I was dreaming about getting a Man of the Match (MoM) award, I didn’t know how it would have happened though.”
Andre Russell received great support from skipper, Rovman Powell, who too stayed unbeaten on 31 off 15 deliveries. After completing a 2-1 series win in ODIs, West Indies have started wonderfully in the ongoing T20 series against England as well.
England hasn’t been able to make an impact on the tour and needs to address the issues at the earliest to make a comeback. The second T20I is slated to be played at National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada on Thursday.
