Eintracht Frankfurt vs Monchengladbach: Preview
Eintracht Frankfurt form analysis
Frankfurt’s recent Bundesliga form has been up and down. On November 12th, they drew a thrilling 2-2 game away at Werder Bremen after losing a 2-0 lead through goals from Borré and Skhiri before conceding late to Ducksch and Smolčić. Frankfurt then suffered a disappointing 1-2 home loss to Stuttgart on November 25th despite Anton’s own goal leveler, with two goals from striker Undav sealing Stuttgart’s comeback win. However, Frankfurt produced the shock result of the season so far by hammering Bayern Munich 5-1 at home on December 9th, racing to a 4-1 halftime lead through goals from Marmoush, Dina Ebimbe (2) and Larsson before Knauff added a fifth after the break.
This tremendous performance was followed up by a sobering 3-0 away loss to an in-form Bayer Leverkusen side just 8 days later. Overall, Frankfurt have shown the capacity for brilliance with the dominant win over Bayern a clear highlight, but struggle for consistency week to week. New signings like Dina Ebimbe and Marmoush have added flair in attack, while the anchors have brought stability to midfield. However, tightening up defensively will be key if they are to push for European qualification this season.
Monchengladbach form analysis
Borussia Mönchengladbach started this run of fixtures in excellent goalscoring form, dismantling Wolfsburg 4-0 at home on November 11th thanks to goals from Čvančara, Reitz, Honorat and Plea. However, their defense was badly exposed in a high scoring 2-4 loss away at rivals Borussia Dortmund on November 25th, despite Reitz and Koné giving them a shock 0-2 lead before capitulating in the second half. Gladbach looked to bounce back in their next game at home against Hoffenheim on December 2nd, and were able to grind out a 2-1 win courtesy of a Plea penalty and Ngoumou’s late strike overturning Weghorst’s equalizer.
But struggles on the road continued in their next match away at Union Berlin on December 9th, where they lost heavily by 3-1 and Plea’s late consolation could not hide a poor overall performance. Most recently at home against Werder Bremen on December 16th, Gladbach battled back from conceding early to take a 2-1 lead through a Reitz brace only to concede late to Ducksch for a 2-2 draw. Overall, Gladbach have shown excellent attacking home form recently but a worrying tendency to leak goals heavily away from home. Finding more consistency and tightening up defensively could help them push for a higher place in the second half of the season.
