Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg: Preview
Eintracht Frankfurt form analysis
Frankfurt began their league campaign with a 1-0 home win against Darmstadt courtesy of a Kolo Muani goal. They followed that up with a 1-1 away draw against Mainz, where they needed a last minute equalizer from Marmoush to claim a point.
Frankfurt then drew at home again, 1-1 against Cologne after going behind to a Kainz penalty before Nkounkou leveled late on. Most recently, Frankfurt earned another 1-1 draw away at Bochum, with new signing Dina Ebimbe putting them ahead before Stoger’s penalty secured a point for Bochum.
Overall, Frankfurt have been solid but unspectacular so far. They have only conceded 2 goals in 4 games, displaying defensive resilience. However, scoring goals has been an issue with just 3 so far. The inability to see out wins when ahead has also been a concern. But manager Dino Toppmöller has made Frankfurt tough to beat.
Freiburg form analysis
Freiburg made a winning start by beating Hoffenheim 2-1 away thanks to goals from Sallai and an own goal. They followed that up with a hard fought 1-0 home win over Werder Bremen courtesy of a last minute Philipp strike.
However, Freiburg were then thrashed 5-0 away at Stuttgart in a shock result. They responded well initially by taking a 2-1 lead over Dortmund at home, but capitulated late on to lose 4-2 after going down to 10 men.
Overall, Freiburg have shown both their quality and fragility so far. At their best, they are capable of beating top sides like Hoffenheim. But the heavy defeat at Stuttgart exposed real issues, before defensive lapses cost them against Dortmund.
Scoring goals has not been a problem with 7 in 4 games. But tighter organization at the back is needed, especially late in matches. Building greater resilience will be key for Freiburg to get their season back on track after two heavy losses. But their opening two wins demonstrated they can compete with the Bundesliga’s best on their day.
