Dutee Chand Gets A Ban For 4 Years After Failing Dope Test
The ban on Dutee Chand will take effect on January 3, 2023. Any achievements of Dutee will be considered invalid from December 5, 2022. The athlete is expected to contest the sentence since they are not happy with it.
Dutee Chand’s attorney, Parth Goswami, spoke with the news agency PTI and stated that she had been a “clean athlete” throughout her career and that the incident was due to “unintentional consumption”. She said, “To us, this is a blatant instance of inadvertent drug consumption. We were able to identify the substance’s origin in the body, which provides strong evidence of the absence of malice.” According to Goswami, the drug was never utilized to gain an advantage in sports.
“We are currently in the appeals filing procedure. We are hoping that we can persuade the appeals panel, he continued.
Inconsistent defense from athletes
The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel of NADA issued a thorough ruling and stated that it had discovered several discrepancies between the athletes and the case’s witnesses’ submissions. According to the ADDP order, which was obtained by news agency PTI, “The athlete and her counsel had without disputing the results of the NDTL (National Dope Testing Laboratory) report stated that the consumption of the said substance was unintentional and the ingestion of the same had been advised by the physiotherapist who was being regularly seen by the athlete.”
“The athlete and her counsels submitted that the said physiotherapist had been attached with the athlete from the Pullela Gopichand Academy where the athlete was training under special permission,” the judgment said.
The athlete, who was also a witness in the case, was said to have “delegated the task of purchasing the drugs to her friend,” it was claimed.
The ADDP noted that “(the witness) had previously provided an affidavit in which he stated that he went to the store to purchase the aforementioned supplement for hormonal disbalance. But on the contrary, during his cross-examination (the witness) denied purchasing the aforementioned supplement in person. She instead re-delegated to his manager.”
