Conor McGregor is set to his highly anticipated UFC return at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler. Recently his former rival Dustin Poirier shared his prediction for McGregor’s upcoming fight. “The Notorious” will face Chandler in a highly anticipated welterweight bout. This will be the Irishman’s first fight since his big loss to “The Diamond” in July 2021, during which he suffered a severe leg injury. Since then, McGregor has been on a break, recovering and doing various things like acting in movies as well.
Poirier’s take on McGregor vs Chandler clash
McGregor took a long break from the Octagon. While Dustin Poirier, who has Octagon experience with both Chandler and McGregor, believes the Irishman holds a significant advantage. Recently in an interview, Poirier stated, “I think if Conor comes back the same way he was before the injury, timing and movement-wise, I think he is gonna knock Michael Chandler out. It’s just a bad matchup for Chandler.”
The Diamond wants to spend time with family
There have been retirement talks surrounding Dustin for several matches now and he hasn’t quelled the speculation. In a recent interview, he reiterated his mixed feelings about continuing his MMA career. Dustin believes he can grind, climb back to the spit and fight for the world title. According to him, this is a very selfish sport and he wants to spend time with his family and do fatherly duties. Poirier further stated that he can do it again, but this is it for him.
Poirier wants to add a title to his accolades
The 35-year-old previously stated his desire to retire at this age. After getting two incredible wins over Conor McGregor in 2021, The Diamond is chasing championship glory at UFC 302 as a final achievement in his career. A win in his upcoming bout against Islam Makhachev will add the undisputed lightweight title to his accolades.
