UFC fighter Dustin Poirier hinted at retiring from MMA after his last bout against Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. However, within a few days, he dismissed the rumors and said he wanted to come back for more. Recently, “The Diamond” has once again teased his comeback. He took Instagram and posted a photo of himself in the story with the caption, “Big news coming soon.”
Fans are speculating big matchups
After this hint at a return, the MMA community became extremely excited. Speculations began to mount, with names like Charles Oliveira and Dan Hooker being considered as his potential opponents. “Do Bronxs” is looking for a big name to defeat and move on from his UFC 300 loss. Oliveira faced Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 and almost had the fight in his hands. However, “Ahalkalakets” displayed his brilliant masterclass and defeated the Brazilian to claim the shot at the UFC Lightweight title.
For Poirier, his bout against Islam Makhachev was a tough one. Competing for the championship, “The Diamond” put on a brilliant performance, cutting down Makhachev midway through the bout. With constant strikes to his opponent, Poirier showed his experience. However, a momentary lapse from him resulted in a submission win for Makhachev. After the match, the UFC Lightweight champion had to undergo surgery on his hand, which shows how good Piorier was in the match.
Poirier expressed a desire to fight Nate Diaz
Poirier was in talks for a fight with Nate Diaz for a while. The match was supposed to happen when Diaz was still in the UFC. The match never happened, but it looks like Nate is still open to the fight. Poirier urged Diaz to sign a contract as soon as possible, looking eager for the fight. “The Diamond” also spoke of a rematch with Islam Makhachev. Currently, the lightweight champion is expected to face Arman Tsarukyan, who is currently serving a suspension.

During UFC 300, the Armenian fighter got involved in an altercation with a fan, which was against the rules of the promotion. Hence, Tsarukyan was handed a 9-month ban. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Poirier wanted a rematch against Makhachev, but that didn’t happen. But the recent announcement from him definitely hints at something big.
