Dundee vs Aberdeen: Preview
Dundee form analysis
Dundee’s recent form in the Scottish Premiership has been inconsistent, with two wins, a draw and two losses from their past five matches. On 11th November, they earned an emphatic 4-0 home victory over St Mirren thanks to goals from Albert Bakayoko, Zach Robinson and a Zach Rudden penalty. However, a 1-2 loss to Hibernian followed in their next game despite Beck pulling one back late on. Dundee then drew a thriller 3-3 away at Motherwell, equalizing three times before eventually being pegged back, with Robinson again on target. Most recently, James McPake’s side recorded a creditable 1-3 loss away at champions Rangers, taking a shock early lead through Bakayoko before the hosts’ quality shone through. Dundee’s last result saw them claim a late 1-0 win away at Ross County.
So while capable of scoring goals aplenty, Dundee have struggled defensively over this period, conceding 2+ goals in 4 of their past 5 games. Tightening up at the back could help transform their fortunes and build on the attacking threat posed by the likes of Bakayoko and Robinson going forward.
Aberdeen form analysis
Aberdeen have experienced mixed recent form in the Scottish Premiership, recording two wins, two defeats and a draw from their last five matches. On 26th November, the Dons fought back to earn a creditable 1-1 home draw with champions Rangers, taking the lead through Bojan Miovski before conceding late on to a James Tavernier penalty. However, disappointing back-to-back 1-0 losses followed away to Hibernian and at home against Kilmarnock, struggling to create chances in both defeats. Aberdeen stopped their rot last Friday with a thrilling 2-1 home win over Hearts, with Miovski cancelling out Lawrence Shankland’ opener before substitute Leighton Clarkson netted a last-gasp winner. Most recently, Jim Goodwin’s side made it consecutive wins by fighting back to beat Livingston 2-1 courtesy of another brace from talisman Miovski, maintaining his excellent goalscoring form.
So while Aberdeen have proved they can trouble the league’s top sides, their inconsistency remains an issue, reflected in their struggles to break down more defensive opponents. Maintaining intensity and a goal threat from Miovski could be key to transforming the Dons’ fortunes in the weeks ahead.
