The former WWE Universal champion Drew McIntyre suffered a neck injury and was on a break from WWE to recover from the injury. He wanted to make his second WWE run magical and for this he looked to Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman as his inspiration. This was his story when he made his second return to WWE in 2018. McIntyre was removed after appearing on TV a few times to get some tests done regarding his neck problem.
McIntrye wanted to become the WWE Champion
Recently, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, “The Scottish Warrior” revealed that he wanted to come back to WWE and get to the top. He then looked at Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman, who were the top men in the company. Heyman was with Lesnar as his spokesperson and the two had been moving up in WWE.
McIntyre said, “I do want to be there. I do want to be the WWE Champion. The goal was to headline WrestleMania. I am proud of what I am doing right now, but what are we going to do? Who’s the top billing in WWE right now? And at that time, I was looking at Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman, and okay that’s the top attraction right now.”
However, Drew was unsure about himself, would he be able to match Brock’s standards, or if the two stood face to face, would he be a proper opponent for The Beast? “If I stand up to Brock Lesnar, am I believable more than a lot of people? But no, I can do much better than that. I am going to build my body in such a way that if I stand in front of Brock, people will say, ‘I believe he can beat him,’” said McIntyre.
The Scottish Warrior defeated the Beast Incarnate
The Scottish Warrior further revealed that when he returned, he asked for more shows and promos and started eating like crazy. Soon, he was at the top of his game and at the Royal Rumble 2020, he eliminated Brock Lesnar. The pop that he got at that time was undoubtedly incredible.

McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 to win the WWE Universal Championship for the first time. However, the match took place in an empty arena as WWE had to go on without an audience for a few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then McIntyre has remained one of the top stars of the company. His graph in WWE has been on a steady rise over the last four years. He is currently embroiled in a bitter storyline with CM Punk. The two are set to face off against each other once again at the Bad Blood.
