The current UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards has recently made a huge statement about Belal Muhammad, who is currently one of the top welterweights in the promotion. According to Leon, Belal training with former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will not make any difference in their UFC 304 clash.
Edwards doesn’t care about who Belal trains with
Recently, in an interview with Red Corner MMA, Edwards was asked if Khabib could get any information through Muhammad for his future bout with Islam Makhachev. While he agreed that this could be a possibility, he doesn’t think it will make much of a difference in the upcoming UFC 304 bout. “Rocky” also claimed that Belal’s style has been the same for the last few years.
Leon Edwards is in great shape for his upcoming fight against Belal Muhammad. “The 36-year-old is also putting in all his hard work and has been training for the fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, Edwards is confident in his ability and has no concerns about Muhammad’s preparation. “Rocky” stated that if his opponent is relying on having Khabib in his corner, it doesn’t matter to him.
“When it comes to fight night, his skills are his skills and the way he fights for how many years is how he fights. Let’s see, I don’t give two sh*ts who is in this corner or who is training with,” said Edwards.
Edwards has been tipped to face Islam Makhachev potentially in the future. When asked if Makhachev’s teammate could try to gather information on him through Khabib, Edwards agreed it was possible. Leon won the welterweight championship at UFC 278 with a knockout win over Kamaru Usman. Since then, he has defended the title against Usman and Colby Covington. He is now set to face Belal Muhammad. The two previously faced off in 2021 and the bout ended in a no-contest due to an accidental eye injury.
Both fighters are on undefeated streak
Edwards has been undefeated since 2015 and his last loss came in his first face-off against Kamaru Usman. The British fighter has won 12 of his last 13 bouts, with one being a no-contest. On the other hand, Belal last suffered a loss in 2019 and has since won nine of his last ten fights, losing none. Both men will head to UFC 304 with undefeated streaks to their names.
