The ICC Men’s T20 World cup 2024 has suffered a setback with Dominica withdrawing as one of its venues, Dominica has withdrawn its stadiums Windsor Park Sports Stadium and Benjamin’s Park from the host list. This is a huge blow for West Indies Cricket as it’s the co-host for the marquee event to be held in West India & USA in June 2024.
What’s the reason of Dominica withdrawing it’s stadiums from the Marquee event
Shortlisted to host one group stage match & two matches in Super 8 stage, Dominica’s withdrawal comes as a challenge for West Indies Cricket. They withdrew from the host venues list due to the challenges in meeting the obligations outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) within the stipulated timelines. The Dominica Government things that they could not complete the necessary infrastructure guidelines within the stipulated timeline & thus they opted not to host any fixtures for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, as they could not commit to hosting any World Cup fixtures.
The government statement highlighted the efforts undertaken at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and Benjamin’s Park, including upgrades, venue enhancements, assessments, and the creation of additional pitches as part of the preparation
What are the venues for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC has finally announced all the venues for the T20 World Cup 2024 in September 2023. They are Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, and St Vincent & The Grenadines are the seven venues that will host the marquee event from June 4 to 30. Dominica was one of the announced venue for the T20 World Cup 2024 but they have pulled from the hosting rights. Grand Prairie in Dallas, Broward County in Florida and Nassau County in New York were announced as USA venues.
Which teams will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
For the first time in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup around 20 teams will participate in the event. The top eight teams from World Cup 2022 who earned direct qualification are India, Australia, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, Netherlands.
While USA & West Indies have earned direct qualification being the hosts of the tournament. Afghanistan & Bangladesh are the two teams who were the best team in the ICC T20 rankings after the 8 teams that qualified from T20 World Cup 2022. Coming to the American qualifier event, Canada have qualified after winning the event. While Irelandand Scotland came through via the Europe Qualifiers. Nepal and Oman through Asia Qualifiers. Nepal and Oman through Asia Qualifiers while Papue New Guinea topped the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. Namibia and Uganda have come through Africa Qualifiers.
With 20 teams participating in the tournament it would be a celebrated event with the best team emerging as victorious.
