UFC Star Daniel Cormier Questions Conor McGregor’s Return: “Does He Even Want to Fight?”
Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier has cast doubt on Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon, suggesting the Irishman may be more interested in his newfound celebrity lifestyle than the grueling training required for fighting.
McGregor was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 main event but he was often seen partying because of his affluent lifestyle. At one point, Dana White who deems Conor McGregor an elite fight in all regards was asked if the fight is really going to take place.
White said at the moment that McGregor was playing psychological games with Chandler but it has turned out to that his favourite fighter was actually disinterested in sell-out fight.
McGregor’s last fight was in July 2021, where he suffered a debilitating leg break. While he has expressed his desire to return, McGregor has also been busy with other ventures, including acting in a remake of “Road House.” Cormier points out the stark contrast between the intense training required for MMA and the luxurious life McGregor currently enjoys.
“You’ve got to think,” Cormier said. “Be on yachts, parties, having fun, or spend months in a gym fighting killers. Most would choose option A.”
Cormier acknowledges McGregor’s past fighting spirit but questions his current commitment.
“I thought the star was still the same,” Cormier said. “I just don’t know that he wants to fight, especially right now.”
McGregor’s recent withdrawal from a scheduled fight at UFC 303 further fuels speculation about his future. With this setback, Cormier believes Michael Chandler, McGregor’s intended opponent, should move on.
“Chandler still needs to fight,” Cormier said. “He doesn’t need Conor McGregor. His goals haven’t changed. I don’t know that waiting for McGregor gets him closer to a championship.”
The cancellation of the McGregor-Chandler fight casts a shadow over UFC 303, which takes place on June 29th in Las Vegas. While the event will go on, many fans are left wondering if they will ever see Conor McGregor back in the octagon.
