Haney Blasts Garcia, De La Hoya After Positive B-Sample Test
Devin Haney continues to cast doubt on Ryan Garcia’s innocence after Garcia’s B-sample from a drug test conducted in April again tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. Ryan Garcia’s hair test indicates he isn’t a long-term abuser of Ostarine but unfortunately it doesn’t matter in the context of the fight against Haney.
He tested positive twice and the B sample was also positive. He cheated. End of story.
Garcia, who defeated Haney via a majority decision in their super lightweight clash, initially tested positive for ostarine in both a pre-fight and post-fight test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Garcia has consistently denied knowingly ingesting any banned substances.
On Thursday, Garcia’s legal team released a statement claiming a negative hair sample result as evidence of no wrongdoing and suggesting any ostarine presence stemmed from contaminated supplements.
Haney remains unconvinced. Reacting on social media, Haney questioned the legitimacy of Garcia’s voluntary hair test. He posted on X:
Ryan & his team knew he would test positive that’s why they did a bs “hair test” on their own which who really he knows if they did it..
This latest development follows an eight-page letter submitted by Haney’s team to the New York State Athletic Commission requesting Garcia’s retroactive disqualification. With the B-sample positive, a formal appeal is expected.
While the negative hair test for ostarine suggests Ryan might not have been using it for a long period (over a year, as hair tests indicate), it doesn’t rule out PED use in April. Hair testing is for long-term detection, and the positive drug test results still point to PED use around the fight time.
Haney’s frustrations extend beyond Garcia, reaching his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. Following his social media response to Garcia, Haney targeted De La Hoya, head of Golden Boy Promotions, suggesting De La Hoya has been avoiding him and withholding proper compensation.
