Major news broke when Sri Lanka Cricket declared that they would be removing Danushka Gunathilaka’s ban. The 32-year-old was taken into custody following several credible claims of sexual assault made against him in Australia.
On October 13, following a discussion regarding the matter, the board’s executive committee approved the recommendations made for him. The all-around player was given a warning, nevertheless, which said to “always uphold his status as a representative of the nation in all his future actions.”
Notably, after being charged, Gunathilaka was detained in Australia in 2022 during the T20I World Cup. He was subject to 11 months of domestic travel restrictions following his detention. In addition, four further charges of sexual assault against him were dismissed before to prosecution.

“After careful evaluation of Mr. Gunathilaka’s exoneration and with due consideration to his cricketing career and its impact on the cricketing ambitions of the nation, the Inquiry Panel, headed by Retired High Court Judge Sisira Ratnayake, Mr. Niroshana Perera, Attorney at Law, and Mr. Asela Rekawa, Attorney at Law, unanimously recommended an immediate lifting of his cricketing ban, allowing him to resume regular cricket activities and return to national duty,”
