Darren Till has recently made his Boxing debut, but it seems it hasn’t proven to be particularly fruitful for him. The English fighter requested his release from the UFC in February 2023, with plans to return in the future. Till was scheduled to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson on July 20. However, the bout was canceled due to visa issues and Mike Perry replacing ill Tyson at the last minute. Instead, Till made his short-notice debut against Mohammad Mutie at Social Knockout 3 in Dubai on Saturday.
Darren didn’t gain much payday
Till won the bout via TKO victory after Mutie refused to continue because of brutal punches to the back of his head. The post-fight turned into a controversy after Mutie started the brawl and then security had to intervene. Recently on MMA Hour, Till revealed that his earnings from this boxing match was his highest since his last UFC fight in 2022, but it wasn’t much.
“It was all right. You know, buying some clothes for the kids and all that. Something like that. I don’t know what to buy with that, like Five Guys or something. We’re good. Little bit of money,” said Till.
He also stated that it has been the best money in 18 months, as he has been struggling for some time.
The fight ended in a chaos
Mutie started the post-fight brawl after crying out in pain. This led to a melee that ended when the security intervened. Till admitted hitting his opponent in the back of the head, but indicated his opponent was looking for an exit strategy himself. According to Till, his opponent knew that he was not going to win anyway and just needed a five-minute fame.
Till also revealed that the event promoters and others were also unhappy with Mutie’s behavior. The promoter, Tam Khan, was screaming at Mutie because it was a disgrace. Dubai police, who are going to work with Till’s promotion, were also there and they were disgusted by Mutie’s actions.
Despite this dramatic incident, Darren sees a positive side to the buzz surrounding it. The English fighter said that Mutie did a favor to them because they went viral now. The whole world is talking about it, so it is a good thing for him. Darren also revealed that he struggled to get a US visa, which is why his matchup with Chavez couldn’t happen.
