Darmstadt vs RB Leipzig: Preview
Darmstadt form analysis
Die Lilien have shown strong form and attacking threat during this recent run of Bundesliga matches. They started the period by pushing Bayer Leverkusen in a high scoring 1-5 loss, with Vilhelmsson netting their goal. Darmstadt then earned a dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Gladbach, scoring three first half goals through Mehlem (2) and Maglica before conceding late on. Next was a respectable 1-3 loss away at Stuttgart, as an own goal temporarily pegged Stuttgart back. Darmstadt returned to winning ways against Werder Bremen, securing an emphatic 4-2 home victory with all four goals coming in the first half. Most recently, they won 1-2 away at Augsburg thanks to goals from Skarke and a Kempe penalty.
Overall, Darmstadt have impressed under coach Torsten Lieberknecht by scoring plenty of goals and playing on the front foot. The likes of Skarke, Mehlem and Kempe have driven them forward from midfield. Defensively there are still issues though, as highlighted by the six goals conceded in two games against Leverkusen and Gladbach. However, Darmstadt have shown enough attacking potency to trouble most teams. If they tighten up at the back, a top half finish looks achievable.
RB Leipzig form analysis
Leipzig started this period strongly, beating Union Berlin 3-0 away from home thanks to goals from Simons and a Šeško brace. A dominant performance. They followed that up with another emphatic victory, defeating Augsburg 3-0 at home with Simons, Openda and Raum on the scoresheet.
Leipzig then ground out a narrow 0-1 away win against Gladbach courtesy of Timo Werner’s goal to continue their perfect start. However, they were held to a 2-2 home draw by Bayern Munich in their next game, despite leading twice through Openda and Lukeba. Their defense was breached twice. Most recently, Leipzig were involved in a goalless stalemate away to Bochum prior to the international break. A more muted display. Overall, Leipzig have shown they can score goals, but also grind out wins when needed.
