Darmstadt vs Bayer Leverkusen: Preview
Darmstadt form analysis
Die Lilien has struggled to pick up points recently, going winless over their last four Bundesliga matches. This poor run of form started on December 16th with a narrow 1-0 loss away to Wolfsburg, conceding the only goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Things did not get much better in their next match on December 23rd. Managing a 3-3 draw at home against Hoffenheim despite finding themselves down 1-0 early and 2-1 at halftime. Darmstadt fought back valiantly with two goals from Skarke to claim a point.
However, Darmstadt were clearly outmatched in their next fixture on January 13th, falling 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund while failing to pose much of an attacking threat. Most recently on January 20th, Darmstadt blew a lead twice against Eintracht Frankfurt to finish 2-2. Giving up equalizers in the 61st and 90th minutes. And just this past weekend on the 28th, Darmstadt suffered another narrow 1-0 defeat away to Union Berlin. Based on this recent form, Darmstadt have struggled defensively and to hold leads, a worrying trend that will need addressing if they hope to turn around their relegation battle.
Bayer Leverkusen form analysis
Bayer Leverkusen have hit a strong run of form over their past four Bundesliga matches, going undefeated while scoring 11 goals over this stretch. It started on December 17th with an emphatic 3-0 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, getting goals from three different players to dominate the match. Leverkusen followed that up on December 21st with their largest win of the season, throttling Bochum 4-0 behind a hat trick from Patrik Schick.
Showing resilience, Leverkusen then grinded out a 1-0 away win against Augsburg on January 13th with a stoppage time winner from Palacios. Most recently on January 20th, Leverkusen came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to stunningly defeat RB Leipzig 3-2 on the road. However, their attacking prowess finally stalled this past weekend on the 27th. Managing just a 0-0 draw at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach. While Leverkusen still remain tough to beat, they will need to regain some attacking chemistry to keep pace at the top of the table.
