Darmstadt vs Augsburg: Preview
Darmstadt form analysis
Die Lilien has struggled to pick up wins in recent Bundesliga matches. On January 28th, they fell 1-0 to Union Berlin after allowing a goal to B. Hollerbach in the 62nd minute. Things did not improve much a week later when they were shut out 0-2 by Bayer Leverkusen, with goals from N. Tella in the 33rd and 52nd minutes. Darmstadt managed a scoreless draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on February 10th, though they were still unable to find the back of the net. Another loss came on February 17th to Stuttgart by a score of 1-2. Stuttgart scored early and late with goals from S. Guirassy and M. Dahoud surrounding a consolation goal in added time from A. Seydel to make it 1-2.
Most recently on February 24th, Darmstadt drew Werder Bremen 1-1 after an own goal gave Werder Bremen the lead in the 8th minute. J. Justvan was able to equalize for Darmstadt in the 33rd minute to salvage the draw. Overall, Darmstadt has struggled defensively, conceding at least one goal in each match. They have been able to score in their last two matches, though converting more consistently on offense will be key if they hope to turn around their recent string of winless matches. Maintaining defensive discipline for a full 90 minutes will also help them close out tighter results.
Augsburg form analysis
Augsburg has shown some signs of life in recent Bundesliga matches, though securing wins has still proven difficult. On January 27th, they fell 2-3 to mighty Bayern Munich after allowing goals from A. Pavlović, A. Davies, and H. Kane surrounding scores from E. Demirović in the 52nd minute and a 90th minute penalty. They drew Bochum 1-1 on February 3rd after conceding early but equalizing through another E. Demirović penalty in added time. Against RB Leipzig on February 10th, Augsburg held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals from P. Tietz and E. Demirović but conceded equalizers both times to finish 2-2.
The struggles to maintain leads continued against Mainz on February 17th when S. van den Berg scored in the 43rd minute to give Mainz a 1-0 victory. Most recently on the 26th, Augsburg finally managed to take a win 2-1 over Freiburg, though they again had to come from behind. V. Grifo put Freiburg ahead on a penalty in the 19th minute before F. Uduokhai equalized in the 72nd minute and A. Engels secured the winner in the 81st. Overall, Augsburg has shown the capacity to score and fight back when conceding but struggles to protect leads, as evidenced by their two draws and two losses despite scoring first in three of those matches. Maintaining concentration and defensive organization for a full 90 minutes will be critical if they hope to turn around results.
