Darmstadt 98 vs Bochum: Preview
Darmstadt 98 form analysis
Die Lilien’s recent run of form has shown plenty of goals at both ends, with some heavy defeats mixed amongst impressive wins. They started with a 3-1 away loss to Stuttgart, going ahead early before conceding 3 second half goals. They responded excellently, hammering Werder Bremen 4-2 at home, racing to a 4-0 lead before conceding late consolations. Building momentum, Darmstadt then won 2-1 away at Augsburg, again scoring early and holding firm for an impressive victory.
However, they came crashing back down to earth with a 1-3 home loss to RB Leipzig, going behind early and despite a Kempe penalty, Leipzig pulled away in the second half. Most recently, Darmstadt were thrashed 0-8 at Bayern Munich, simply unable to contain the champions’ relentless attack.
Overall, Darmstadt have shown they can score and trouble teams, with Kempe and Skarke impressing, but they remain far too open defensively.
Bochum form analysis
Bochum’s recent run of results paints a bleak picture as they continue to struggle at both ends of the pitch. Their woes started with an expected thrashing, losing 0-7 at home to Bayern Munich and simply unable to cope with the champions’ ruthless attack. Things improved slightly with a spirited 1-3 home loss to Gladbach, going behind early but showing some fight despite the scoreline.
They built on this with an encouraging 0-0 away draw at high-flying Leipzig, digging deep to earn a valuable point. However, defensive issues persisted in a 1-2 loss away at Freiburg, taking the lead through Paciencia but conceding twice in the first half to come away empty handed. Most recently they drew 2-2 at home with Mainz in a drama-filled game, twice leading but conceding late to drop vital points.
Overall, while Bochum has shown some attacking threat, their defense remains far too porous and they lack resilience when ahead in games. With just 1 win all season, they face an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
