There comes a freshly brewed update from the house of the IPL franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad! Daniel Vettori has been named as the Head Coach of SRH replacing prolific Brian Lara. Vettori served as the head coach of the RCB franchise from 2014 to 2018. And now adding one more feather to his cup, Daniel Vettori will serve as the Head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Vettori is currently working as the Head Coach of Australia’s men’s team.
This means that SRH will be their fourth head coach in six seasons of IPL. Their leadership & coaching setup changes in almost every season. Initially Tom Moody served as their head coach in 2019 & 2022. His successor Trevor Bayliss served as Head Coach in the 2020 & 2021 seasons followed by Brian Lara in the 2023 season. Lara had replaced Moody ahead of the IPL 2023 & now just after the conclusion of IPL 2023, they have a new coach in place.
A Glimpse of Daniel Vettori Coaching Stint
Talking about Vettori, he is currently serving as the Head Coach of the Birmingham Phoenix men’s team. And back in 2022 May, Cricket Australia named him as the Head Coach of Australia’s National team. His coaching stint roster includes notable stints with Barbados Royals in the CPL, with Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League, and with Middlesex in the Vitality Blast. He had served as the Head Coach with all these T20 league franchises while he also had a brief coaching stint with the Bangladesh men’s team.
During his previous coaching stint in IPL with RCB, Vettori guided his franchise to the Playoffs in the 2015 edition & into the finals in the 2016 edition of the league. However, they couldn’t lift the title during that edition after losing the fixture to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Why did SRH replace Brian Lara with Daniel Vettori as their Head Coach?
SRH has adopted a trend of changing their head coach this is because their performance in the Indian Premier League has deteriorated in every season. They finished at the 10th spot in the IPL 2023 with four wins & ten losses. The last time when SRH reached the playoffs was in 20202. And since then they have witnessed a downward curve in their performances as they could win just 13 out of 29 fixtures since IPL 2021.
SRH ended their ties with long-time captains David Warner & Kane Williamson after the veterans failed to improve the fortune of Sunrisers Hyderabad. And now with a motive of improving their performance in IPL 2024, SRH has appointed Daniel Vettori as their head Coach. They will now hope to end their streak of ending outside the top four with a fresh combination of Vettori & Aiden Markram in place.
Big franchises are adopting Coach Change ahead of IPL 2024
Biggies of the Indian Premier League are going for a change in coaching setup with the urge of winning the trophy in IPL 2024. Earlier Andy Flower replaced Justin langer as the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants. While RCB ended their long-time association with head Coach Mike Hesson with Andy Flower replacing him in the same Capacity.
