Dana White has recently hinted at a significant change to the schedule of WWE pay-per-view live events, pointing at a possible change to Sundays. This unofficial announcement comes as part of a perfunctory comment in the UFC media press where the UFC President indicated that TKO’s strategy is to create a weekend spectacle, including Power Slap on Friday and UFC on Saturday, followed by WWE on Sunday.
White said, “We already have the dates set right now where Power Slap goes on Friday and UFC goes on Saturday. You’re going to see Friday, Power Slap, Saturday, UFC and Sunday, WWE. You’ll start seeing that stuff too.”
This might not be the case for all WWE events
However, this proposed change is not final. It may not be the case for all WWE events, and for those where it may be a factor, it has drawn mixed reactions among fans. Some are skeptical, believing that Saturday attracts more viewers due to the absence of work commitments the next day, others are open to the idea, especially if TKO offers a package deal that includes UFC and WWE, both events over the weekend.
Although discussions have taken place, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Also, it makes sense that WWE would consider all options, as they did when the company first moved its programs from Sundays to Saturdays. White outlined TKO’s current plan to host Power Slap on Friday, UFC on Saturday and potentially WWE on Sunday. If all three brands can work together on big weekends to provide fighting entertainment throughout the weekend, it could be worth it.
WWE and UFC might collaborate more often
This is likely a part of the UFC and WWE collaborating more often. White’s comments suggest that TKO is actively exploring crossovers between the UFC and WWE, which would hint at more UFC fighters jumping into a WWE ring for appearances or matches. Dana also highlighted the change in attitude compared to previous tensions between TKO and WWE. With everything under the TKO umbrella, it only makes sense for these respective companies to work together and foster synergy between their combat sports properties. While WWE PLE’s potential move to Sundays may disrupt traditional viewing routines, the changes are unlikely to impact big shows like SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, or WrestleMania. But as TKO continues to find new ways to leverage their combined assets, it won’t be a surprise that WWE moves some of its PLEs to Sunday nights.
