The UFC CEO Dana White is very well known for voicing his support for Jon Jones and he doesn’t care about what people say about his inclination towards “Bones.” Dana has constantly stated that he believes Jones is the UFC GOAT. Such a story didn’t go down well with many as they expressed their doubts, citing Jones’ failed drug tests. However, in a recent interaction with “Grind City Media,” White stated that there is no point in getting involved in the debate.
White defends Jon Jones’ GOAT status
When White was asked if this was part of promoting Jon Jones’ next fight, he dismissed the idea. Repeating his stance on Jones’ supremacy, White said, “These are all facts. I even put them out in a f***ing commercial for all the stupid people that can’t wrap their heads around it. The UFC CEO further took a dig at fans, saying that everyone thinks they are experts in MMA or UFC. But in reality, the real experts were the UFC team, who have worked hard day and night to make the UFC the pinnacle of mixed martial arts.
Dana White further added that he and his team always try to do things that have not been done before. White gave the example of hosting UFC at the iconic The Sphere in Las Vegas. Well, despite White repeatedly praising the UFC heavyweight champion, the controversies surrounding the British champion have not subsided. In fact, in a recent appearance on his podcast, renowned coach Javier Mendez compared Jon Jones to Lance Armstrong. He drew a similarity and mentioned that Armstrong was once considered the undisputed king of cycling. But after being caught doping, Armstrong lost his GOAT status and all his accolades were taken away from him.
Jones has a long history of failed drug tests
Mendez further stated that Jon Jones is no different, as he has been found to have banned substances in his system multiple times. Well, Jones has a history of failing drug tests. In 2016, this story started with Jones being found using estrogen blockers. Upon returning from his initial suspension, Jones was once again found with Turinabol, which led to a 15-month ban on him. But after USADA revised his limit of banned drugs to 100 pictograms, “Bones” sought to be cleared of the charges as his tests were below this revised level each time. Thus, with Jones’ PED allegations getting complicated, it remains to be seen how long he can maintain his championship status in the heavyweight division.
