After former US President Donald Trump was attacked at a rally in Pennsylvania, a GoFundMe page has been set up for victims of the shooting to support them with donations nearing $2 million. Donald Trump survived the assassination attempt as the bullet grazed his ear. Unfortunately, one rally attendee was killed and two were seriously injured.
Following this tragic incident, national finance director and senior advisor to Trump, Meredith O’Rourke, launched a GoFundMe page for the victims of the tragedy. According to the fundraiser, they have raised a total of $1.8 million till now.
Dana White showed support for his friend Trump
Several famous figures and celebrities have flocked to the fundraiser and donated substantial amounts since the shooting. Musician Kid Rock and UFC President Dana White each donated $50,000 to the fund. White expressed his shock at the assassination attempt and took to social media on Saturday to show his support for the former President and his close friend Trump.
“I can’t wait to stand up on stage with him on Thursday and introduce him at the Republican National Convention and tell the world exactly the character of the friend and man I know,” wrote White.
Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, conservative pundit Ben Shapiro, Billionaire Bill Ackman have also contributed to the campaign. Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick and his wife also donated to the fund.
The Gunman was killed at the venue by authorities
Just 15 minutes into Trump’s rally, a gunman climbed from the roof and fired multiple shots into the venue with his AR-15-style rifle. Amid continuous popping sounds, Trump went down to the ground and hid behind his podium. Secret Service agents rushed to the stage, picked up the former president and escorted him safely off the stage. The GOP candidate later said that he is fine and is grateful that God prevented the unimaginable from happening.
The 20-year-old suspected gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed on the spot by the authorities at the venue. Trump also announced that he has planned to leave for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon as scheduled. First, he was going to postpone his trip to Wisconsin and the Republican National Convention by two days, but now Trump has decided not to allow any potential killer or shooter to force a change in schedule or anything else.
The two injured victims have not been identified yet, but the shooting victim was identified as Corey Comperatore, who was a former fire chief and had just turned 50.
