NXT Battleground saw history being made as TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace competed for the NXT Women’s Championship in WWE. Grace was unfortunately not able to defeat Roxanne Perez and take the title back to TNA with her. However, Grace shouldn’t have only herself to blame, as the women’s title match ended in chaos.
Grace failed to win the NXT title
Grace had the upper hand in the match before the other wrestlers got involved. Tatum Paxley, who made it very clear she was in the pursuit of the gold medal, started a frenzy for a few moments, crossing the barricade and eyeing the titles at ringside. Moving on from the NXT Women’s title, Paxley took Grace’s Knockouts title instead. This obviously distracted Grace as Paxley attempted to leave the arena with the belt.
Dana Brooke returned to WWE for the first time since her release
Despite this, Grace was not the first one to stop Paxley and prevent her from leaving with the title. As she backed away up the ramp, Dana Brooke, who is now known in TNA as Ashe by Elegance, stopped Paxley, giving Grace the opportunity to run up the ramp and take her title back. Despite Ash’s help, Grace opted to knock both her and Paxley down before returning to the ring to resume her match.
This whole scene gave Perez enough time to recover and even though Grace still had the upper hand when she returned to the ring, Roxanne reversed her finisher and hit Grace with Pop Rocks, immediately covering her for the win. This meant that while it was a historic moment for Grace to compete for the NXT title while holding a TNA championship, it wasn’t made more iconic by winning the belt from WWE.

However, the end of the match is a clear indication that there is going to be more crossover between WWE and TNA in the future. Grace will be making an open challenge for the Knockouts title this Friday at “Against All Odds.” There is a great possibility that Paxley or Brooke might try to answer her challenge.
