7) Javagal Srinath
The unsung hero of the Indian cricket team, Javagal Srinath occupies a special place in our list of Cricketers who came out of retirement to play for the National team. He is one of the best seamers in Indian Cricket history returning with figures of 315 ODI wickets. He is the second-highest wicket-taker for India & has led the country’s pace attack for several years. He has ended his career with 550 International wickets in his kitty. He announced his Test retirement back in 2002 after the end of the West Indies Tour.
The news was not accepted by Indian team management & Captain Sourav Ganguly convinced him to take a U-turn from his decision of retirement to play in the home West Indies series & World Cup 2003. Srinath kept his captain’s words & displayed a spell-bounding performance in both series. The prolific seamer sclaped 16 wickets in 11 fixtures at an average of 23.06 & an economy of 4.04 in the World Cup 2003. Javagal Srinath ended his career as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. But finally, the day came when he bid adieu to Cricket after India’s dismal loss against Australia by 125 runs in the World Cup finals.
