Cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who has been selected as one of the Trinamool Congress’s 42 Lok Sabha candidates, is prepared to embark on a new chapter in his life.
On Sunday, March 10, at the massive rally held at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, the announcement was made. The former cricket player for India is scheduled to run in the elections from the Berhampur seat, which is presently held by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a congressman.
Congress has not yet declared who will represent Berhampur. Adhir could, nevertheless, run again from the constituency, which he has served as the representative for five times since 1999.
Overwhelmed, Yusuf posted on all of his social media platforms, expressing gratitude to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for believing in him. The all-round player, who helped the Kolkata Knight Riders win two Indian Premier League (IPL) championships in 2012 and 2014, aspired to improve the lot of the underprivileged.

“I will always be appreciative to Smt. @mamataofficial for extending a warm welcome to me as a member of the TMC family and for entrusting me with the duty of representing the people in Parliament. It is our responsibility as representatives of the people to uplift the underprivileged, and that is what I intend to accomplish,” the 41-year-old stated on Instagram.
Yusuf is familiar with West Bengal’s rich history. He played for KKR for seven seasons, winning multiple games on his own to help the team win.
The cricketer from Baroda made his debut for his country against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup finals. He went on to play 22 T20Is and 57 ODIs for India. He scored 810 runs at a strike average of 113.60 and an average of 27 in One-Day Internationals.
With an average of 41.36 in the 50-over format, Yusuf’s off-spin bowling also claimed 33 wickets. In the meantime, the right-hander amassed 236 runs in T20Is at a strike rate of 146.58 and an average of 18.15. He took 13 wickets at an average of 33.69 with the ball.
In his career, Yusuf participated in 174 IPL games. At a strike rate of 142.97 and an average of 29.13, he scored 3,204 runs. He took 42 wickets with the ball. He left the game in all of its formats in February 2021. However, in the various legendary leagues that are currently being played in international cricket, the winner of the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup has thrilled fans with his explosive batting.
