Shahidi Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan, broke the news of her sister’s passing on Tuesday. Afridi revealed on social media that his sister was in a hospital fighting for her life. Even the retired cricketer had to alter his holiday plans because of her health. Afridi went back to visit his sick sister, but she sadly passed away. Cricketer Shahid Afridi Mourns Sister’s Death
On Tuesday (October 17, 2023), Shahid Afridi’s ill sister passed away, the former Pakistan cricketer confirmed on social media. The sister of a former all-round superstar was ill and in a hospital fighting for her life.
Afridi posted on X (previously Twitter), “Indeed, we belong to Allah and we shall return to him. With Heavy hearts, we inform you that our beloved Sister passed away and her Namaz e Janazah will be on 17.10.2023 after Zuhur prayer at Zakariya masjid main 26th street Khayaban e Ghalib DHA.”
The legendary Pakistani cricketer had earlier said on his Facebook page: “I am returning to see you soon, my love. Stay strong.” Please offer duas for the health of my sister, who is now struggling for her life. It would mean a lot. Ya Rabb, may Allah grant her a quick recovery and a long, healthy life.
Following the incident, a lot of people sent their sympathies to the cricketer on social media.

In 1996, Afridi played his first ODI against Kenya. He played his debut international innings in the second ODI match against Sri Lanka, breaking the record for the quickest century in ODI cricket (doing so in 37 deliveries). In 1998, he played his first Test against Australia. Afridi’s T20I debut came in 2006 against England. The 2007 T20 World Cup’s player of the competition was Afridi. Pakistan went on to win the 2009 T20 World Cup, and Afridi was named player of the match after batting an undefeated 54 and recording statistics of 1/20 off of 4 overs.
Younis Khan, the team’s captain, declared his retirement from T20 International matches shortly after Pakistan’s victory at the 2009 World Cup, and Afridi was named as his replacement. After Mohammad Yousuf was fired as Pakistan’s ODI captain in 2010, Afridi was named in his place. Afridi was also named Pakistan’s Test captain, but he left the sport after just one game. In the 2011 Cricket World Cup, he was the captain of the Pakistani squad, which advanced to the semi-finals before falling to rival India. Afridi lost his position as ODI captain in 2011. Afridi ended his ODI career in 2015. Afridi resigned as captain of Pakistan following their exit from the 2016 T20 World Cup in the group round.
After being passed over for selection, Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket on February 19, 2017. After being chosen to represent and captain the World XI against the West Indies in the 2018 Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge charity match, he briefly returned to international cricket. On May 31, 2018, Afridi made a second announcement of his retirement from international cricket following the completion of the game. For Pakistan’s series against New Zealand, he served as the team’s interim chief selector.
