The former captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni, has contested the defamation lawsuit brought against him by his two former business partners. On Monday, cricketer MS Dhoni, accompanied by his legal representative, argued before the Delhi High Court that the defamation lawsuit against him, brought by Mihir Diwakar and his spouse Saumya Das, is unmaintainable.
The couple recently filed a lawsuit alleging that they stole Rs. 15 crores from the cricketer and that he should not be allowed to publish any malicious or defamatory statements about them. Additionally, a number of media outlets, web portals, Google, YouTube, and other social media platforms are named in the lawsuit.
Advocate Sidhant Kunar, representing a media organisation, further argued before the bench that the defamation suit was not maintainable in the Delhi High Court because the complaint’s events took place entirely in Ranchi.

Additionally, MS Dhoni filed a lawsuit in Ranchi alone against his former business partners, according to recent media reports. The Plaintiffs’ counsel was requested to provide specific accusations against media outlets that the Plaintiffs claim have misrepresented them, and the Bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh took note of the submissions and scheduled the matter for April 3, 2024.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs are respectable businessmen who enjoy a spotless reputation and are highly regarded by their peers and peers in the industry. The Plaintiffs are known for being honourable and moral citizens, and their reputation is untarnished and unblemished.
Furthermore, Plaintiff Mihir Diwakar is well-known for his athletic accomplishments, having played 39 first-class games for the nation between 1999 and 2009. He was also included in the Indian Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2000 squad.

It is a matter of record to note that, according to the suit, the Defendant did not accuse the Plaintiffs in the aforementioned Legal Notice of defrauding them of Rs. 15 crores. The Plaintiffs duly responded to the aforementioned Legal Notice dated 04.02.2023 with their Reply notice dated March 02, 2023.
Currently, the Defendant MS Dhoni has filed a complaint dated October 27, 2023, before the court of Judicial Magistrate, Ranchi, in Jharkhand, accusing the Plaintiffs of being guilty and asserting that the Plaintiff defrauded the Defendant of Rs. 15 crores. The complaint was filed through a Power of Attorney holder named Seemant Lohani.
The aforementioned accusations are baseless and devoid of supporting documentation, and their only goal is to damage the Plaintiffs’ reputations. The accusations levied against the Plaintiffs are irrational, fraudulent, vile, spiteful, and unfounded. The Defendant has never before made a claim of this magnitude against the Plaintiffs. According to the lawsuit, the claims made by the defendant against the plaintiffs are baseless, defamatory, and ex facie false.
