The Indian cricket team played its first Test match in 1932 against England at Lord’s, becoming the sixth nation to play Test cricket.
The post-independence era saw cricket becoming a national obsession, with iconic players like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and later Sachin Tendulkar emerging as household names. These cricketers inspired generations of fans, and the sport continued to evolve, particularly with the rise of limited-overs formats like One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and, later, T20s.

The Indian Premier League (IPL), launched in 2008, further boosted the sport’s popularity, making cricket a global spectacle.
