Australian grappler Craig Jones did a shocking thing ahead of his fight with Brazilian MMA fighter Gabi Garcia. The two were set to face off against each other in an intergender grappling match, but Jones pulled a stunt with Garcia that suddenly changed everything during their mandatory pre-fight faceoff. In a viral video, Jones was seen grabbing Garcia’s face and kissing her. A move that definitely shocked Garcia and clearly angered her.
The incident clearly pissed off Garcia
Garcia was quick to push Craig back and seemed enraged by his act. She accused Jones of crossing the line and cancelled the fight. When the camera crew was trying to capture Gabi’s reaction, she pushed the camera lens away instantly in anger. Meanwhile, Craig claims that whatever he did was just in the intention of a humorous act. Reacting to the incident, Craig later posted a video of it and wrote in the caption, “Fight cancelled. I guess Brazilians can’t take a joke. The video just seems another attempt by him to troll Gabi Garcia.
However, a few hours later, Jones again posted a photo dump of him and Garcia with the caption, “The fight is back on.” Now the fans are wondering if this act was all staged or if Craig really tried to pull a humorous act to annoy Garcia.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the fastest-growing sports in the combat world. Craig Jones is trying to add momentum to its rising popularity. He has a black belt in BJJ and is also a professional grappler. Craig trains at B-Team Jiu Jitsu in Austin and is also the co-founder of the facility. He won several medals at ADCC and wanted to start a contest to help fighters get paid better. The Craig Jones Invitational that was organized by the Fair Fight Foundation has gained massive attention through a podcast episode of Joe Rogan.
Garcia reflected on the idea of the intergender match
The main event of the match is supposed to be a face-off between Jones and Garcia. Earlier, while reflecting on Craig’s idea of the intergender match, Gabi previously said in an interview with MMA Fighting, “He is revolutionizing the sport with this idea and for me, it’s good marketing. It’s more than fighting a man.” Garcia further stated that the American audience never liked her and she always faced hate. So this is the first time in her career that 99 percent of people are on her side.
