CPL 2023 Final Highlights: Imran Tahir led Guyana Amazon Warriors scripts history as they won their maiden CPL Title by winning the Final clash against Trinbago Knight Riders. With this win, Imran Tahir became the oldest cricketer at the age of 44 years to lead his team to a title win in the T20 league. Tahir led Guayana Amazon Warriors to a nine-win victory over Shahrukh Khan-owned Trinbago Knight Riders to win the prestigious CPL 2023 title.
Trinbago Knight Riders lost wickets like a pack of cards
The match began with Amazon Warriors winning the toss & opting to bowl first. Batting first, TKR got off to a good start with Walton & Deyal stitching a 24-run opening stand. But they couldn’t capitalize on their start and started losing wickets at regular intervals. They lost four wickets within the first seven overs including the prized wicket of Nicholas Pooran, reducing TKR to 42-4 in 6.3 overs.
Kieron Pollard fell prey to Warriors lethal spin attack with Motie & Tahir wreaking havoc & sclaping a combined four wickets among them conceding just 15 runs in total. Carty tried to show some fightback by playing a rewarding knock of 38 runs off 45 balls but couldn’t do much due to a lack of support from the other end. Their middle & lower order failed miserably to deliver with Pollard (0), Hossein (1), Russell (8), Bravo (8), and Narine (1) all losing their wickets cheaply. Riders wickets fell like a pack of cards. As a result, Trinbago Knight Riders innings were wrapped for just 94 runs in 18.1 overs handing a meager target for the Warriors to chase.
For Guyana Amazon Warriors, Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie produced valuable economic spells. But it was Dwaine Pretorius who starred with the ball by scalping 4 wickets for 26 runs.
Ayub-Keemo’s heroics guided the Warriors to a title win in 14 overs
In reply, Guayana Amazon warriors got off to a blastic start as they were clear of winning the CPL 2023 final & clinching their maiden title. In the beginning, Saim Ayub (52 off 41 balls) & Keemo Paul (11 off 11) stitched 63 runs opening stand to lay the foundation for Warriors gleaming win. Later after Paul’s dismissal in the third over, Hope carried ahead their innings along with Ayub. Saim scored 52 runs off 41 balls while Hope contributed with 32 runs off 32 balls. It was Ayub who brought victory for the Warriors by hitting a winning six & scoring his fifty. Heroic knocks of Ayub & Hope helped the Warriors to chase the target within 14 overs & helped their team clinch their maiden CPL title.
For Knight Riders, only Akeal Hosein could create a mark by returning with one wicket of Paul Keemo. Warriors are on Cloud 9 as they clinched their first CPL title after featuring sixth time in the league.
