The Sandman highlighted the facts
Cory Sandhagen also believes that the other judges follow the existing rules and score the fight based on damage. The 31-year-old highlighted that many fighters and their teams are confused by the ambiguity in the judging criteria, which results in the uncertainty in their fighting strategy. He said that with regard to the aspects of control and damage, many fighters are confused about how much priority to give to one of these aspects.
The Sandman has himself experienced questionable judging recently. He said, “It is kind of a weird piece in the middle. I do love the way it’s trending. As MMA Judging is going, it is trending in that direction of damage because that is what fighting is about. It is not wrestling, which requires a lot of control; Fighting is about doing damage to the person.” Sandhagen won over Marlon Vera in March 2023 via a split decision. He has previously fought for the interim UFC bantamweight title and is currently ranked No. 4 in the official UFC bantamweight ranking.
