UFC star Conor McGregor has recently shared a tweet on social media explaining how the promotion could surprisingly announce his comeback fight without even notifying him in advance. While MMA fans are hopeful that Michael Chandler will be the one to fight “The Notorious”, it appears that the matchup has not been confirmed yet. The Irishman was forced to stay out of action after suffering a serious foot fracture during his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. McGregor spent several months recovering from the surgery and underwent extensive rehabilitation to be able to return to training.
McGregor will make his return next year
The Irishman was away from the sport for more than two years and is now expected to return to action next year. While Michael Chandler is widely considered to be his returning opponent, the UFC has yet to confirm this matchup. McGregor has had issues with USADA over the past few months, so many speculated that the McGregor vs. Chandler bout was canceled, but given Mystic Mac’s recent tweet, he seems to support this.
McGregor wrote : “I promise the UFC would never even have to announce to me who I am fighting. They could do a surprise announcement out of nowhere, a date, an opponent, completely out of the blue, absolutely anyone, at any time, and I’d be in the gym prepping tactics for it. This is legally binding.”

While McGregor did not specifically rule out the Chandler fight, he warned fans that the UFC could legally book him against a surprise opponent at any time. It is worth noting that the Irishman is back in the USADA testing pool as of October 2023.
McGregor can challenge the current champion
Recently, American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez shared his thoughts on a possible Islam Makhachev vs. Conor McGregor bout in the future. Given McGregor’s status as a UFC star, it will not be surprising that he is always just one fight away from a title shot. With the former UFC champion now preparing to make his return to the octagon, many people wonder about the possibility of him challenging the current UFC Lightweight champion.
