Conor McGregor has once again given fans reassurance about his matchup with Michael Chandler. Whether these assurances will come to fruition remains to be seen. After nearly a three-year hiatus, “The Notorious” was all set to make his highly anticipated return at the main event of UFC 303 last month. However, McGregor had to withdraw from the match after suffering an injury to his pinky toe during training. Since then, there have been many questions about the potential matchup between the two fighters.
McGregor reassures fans and Chandler for the fight
Now McGregor has shared a promising update with Chandler, saying he has had a conversation with UFC CEO Dana White and that the fight will definitely happen before the year is over.
“I talked to Dana today about our new date, all looking good! 24’ for sure,” tweeted McGregor. Chandler also expressed his satisfaction with the update.
The two showed unity in support of Trump
The rivals also showed unity over their shared support for former President Donald Trump, who was recently shot at a rally. Fortunately, he survived the attack, as the bullet just passed his ear. McGregor showed his support for the former president and stated that the 78-year-old billionaire should have been on a yacht, but he is not. He is spitting out bullets in Pennsylvania and running for the love of his country. Chandler responded to this and wrote, “We stand united on this one…”. This prompted McGregor to share an update about their fight as well.
Previously, McGregor remained unclear about his next opponent. Chandler and the former UFC champion were set to headline UFC 303. However, on June 13, it was announced that McGregor had suffered an injury, which caused the bout to be postponed to a future date. McGregor is expected to return in December. UFC President Dana White will not comment on the Irishman’s future fighting plans until he receives medical clearance to resume full training. White also stressed that he will not discuss the matter until McGregor is fully recovered, after which they will evaluate the situation and make decisions according to it.
The former UFC Champion is optimistic about his return
McGregor was disappointed to be forced to withdraw from his comeback fight. He expressed his disappointment on Instagram and explained that the injury sustained before the press conference took longer to heal than anticipated, leading him to take the tough decision and withdraw from the fight. The Irishman emphasized that the decision was made in consultation with his doctors and his team. Despite this hurdle, McGregor expressed his gratitude for the fans and his supporters and is optimistic about his return.
