UFC Superstar Conor McGregor has finally broken his silence after withdrawing from the highly anticipated clash against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 main event. UFC President Dana White made the official announcement on June 14 that Conor McGregor’s return bout is postponed because the Irishman suffered an undisclosed injury ahead of the match scheduled for June 29.
McGregor thanked fans for support
McGregor confirmed the injury on Instagram on Saturday. However, he did not give any specific details about the severity of the injury. “The Notorious” posted a photo of himself and wrote in the caption about how difficult it is for him to be ruled out of the scheduled comeback fight. McGregor revealed that he suffered an injury before the press conference, which will require a longer time to heal than is available to him. The former UFC champion further stated that he consulted with doctors, his team and the UFC and then the decision to postpone the fight was taken. He thanked the fans for their support and showed confidence that he will be back.
McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC octagon since suffering a leg injury to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. McGregor took the UFC by storm when he debuted in the promotion and scored several notable wins, including winning two championships as well. However, over the past six years, he has recorded only one win, which was against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020. Besides this, he has two TKO losses to Poirier and one submission defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Pereira and Prochazka will headline the event
Now Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will headline UFC 303. The two will clash for the light heavyweight championship. Initially, a light heavyweight bout between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr. was also scheduled as the co-headliner for the event. However, Hill suffered an injury, on the other hand, Rountree withdrew after inadvertently ingesting DHEA. He immediately notified Jeff Novitzky, Senior Vice President of Anti-Doping Compliance and Donna Marcolini, UFC President of Anti-Doping Compliance.
