After the cancellation of a highly anticipated clash between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler at UFC 303, it seems like the Irish star’s return to the UFC has been in the works again. McGregor is calling for the creation of a new symbolic title similar to the BMF belt. “The Notorious” has been out of action since breaking his leg during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
McGregor’s UFC 303 fight with Chandler was scheduled for June 29. However, McGregor had to withdraw as his pinky toe was injured during a training session.
McGregor is proposing a new title
In a now-deleted post, it was reported by Low Kick MMA that McGregor is now lobbying for a new title, which he claims he already has.
“The realest motherf**ker belt is mine. Finger has Octagon, My octagon canvas I’m arguing black and gold. With baguette ropes. Rope a dope, Proper. You know how I do it. Mister don’t blink once. Ya can’t,” wrote McGregor.
This is not the first time McGregor has requested a belt with the same acronym. In 2021, he proposed something similar, stating that the UFC should actually make two belts. He said that the McGregor belt is currently in creation and now they have also got the new RMF belt (The Richest Motherf**ker belt).
The Notorious is hinted a return in December
McGregor has not won a single match since 2020, his last victory was against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, where he scored a TKO in just 40 seconds. Currently, McGregor is hinting at a possible return in December at UFC 310 to fight against Michael Chandler. However, UFC President Dana White seems to be unsure about this, casting doubt on McGregor’s return before the end of the year.
During the UFC 303 post-fight press conference, Dana White was asked about Michael Chandler’s next move: would he wait for McGregor’s ultimate return or move on to another opponent? To this, White advised against waiting and stressed that time is never on a fighter’s side in the UFC. However, he admitted that, given Chandler’s experience and accomplishments, he might decide to wait for the Irishman.
Meanwhile, Chandler expressed little concern about being overlooked. He emphasized that McGregor’s return to the UFC would inevitably be a fight with him, saying that even if he considers other big fight opportunities, McGregor’s path back to the UFC will have to pass through him.
