This year’s Royal Rumble saw another exciting final moment as Cody Rhodes clinched his spot in the main event of WrestleMania 40, winning back-to-back Royal Rumbles. He entered the Rumble in 15th place, outlasting 29 other competitors and ultimately defeating CM Punk to win.
The final moments of the Rumble saw an intense battle between six men: Damian Priest, Sami Zayn, Gunther, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. While Punk was struggling with an apparent arm problem, the intensity increased. WWE cameras saw Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns watching from the press box.
The battle became intense as the match got closer to end
Gunther targeted Cody and McIntyre attacked Punk. McIntyre successfully connected with Claymore kicks on Gunther and Rhodes before targeting CM Punk. In a surprise twist, Punk managed to eliminate McIntyre, leaving the final three competitors: Gunther, Rhodes and Punk. As the match turned into a virtual singles competition, Rhodes and Punk showed amazing flexibility, going back and forth in a heated exchange. Cody executed a Cody Cutter and Punk responded with GTS. The match went on to become more and more intense as Punk attempted another GTS, but Rhodes reversed and eliminated Punk from the ring.
The American Nightmare made history
Rhodes emerged victorious and made history as the first man to win consecutive Royal Rumbles in 26 years. Punk, who was suffering from a minor elbow problem, watched from the outside as Cody insisted and pointed to the WrestleMania sign. The closing pyro added to the moment, with Cody directing his gaze towards Roman Reigns, who showed a sign of confidence by raising up the championship belt.
WrestleMania 40 will see an epic showdown where Rhodes, fueled by the momentum of his historic win, will undoubtedly provide an intense challenge for the reigning champion, Roman Reigns. During the Royal Rumble media conference, Cody said he silenced the doubters.
