The current undisputed WWE champion, Cody Rhodes, has recently stated that he is willing to add a manager during his current title run. It sounds strange because WWE has never seen a babyface champion with a mouthpiece. However, this would not be the first time The American Nightmare is interested in taking this route. He previously worked with Arn Anderson in AEW. It’s unclear whether Cody is talking about the idea of having a permanent manager or perhaps just having someone to back him up during his match with Logan Paul at King and Queen of the Ring.
Rhodes is willing to keep a manager
On Friday night, The American Nightmare was in the ring on SmackDown and he was greatly outnumbered by Logan Paul, his lawyer and his entourage. During a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Cody stated that when he and Logan were signing the contract, it was something he missed, flanked by so many people. “I don’t know. Maybe I’m looking for a classic wrestling manager to join me on this title reign,” said Rhodes.
Babyfaces usually don’t have managers
Typically, babyface champions in WWE do not have managers. This is very rare, as the main reason wrestlers keep managers is because they play the roles of cheaters and manipulators. Managers are always the ones who distract the opponent. To generate sympathy for a babyface, the odds are stacked against them. A manager works contrary to that purpose. If Cody were to have a manager, the audience would not feel that he is fighting against the odds.
One great reason for giving Cody a manager could be to help his promos. He is often good at them, but the aura of his twisted promos is over the top and his tone can be a little cocky. He uses big words that are often incomprehensible to the general audience and he tries to tell stories that people often don’t like. The idea of keeping things simple could apply to him, especially now that he’s being seen as someone who gives away the advantage.

Cody gave away his WrestleMania main event before taking it back and most recently, he signed away his rights to fight for the United States Championship. Some of his decisions disappoint fans and they might not be good for his character in the long run. So even if he does keep a manager now, we are sure the audience will like it and it will add something interesting to his character as well.
