WWE is not just about generating great revenue through ticket sales and merchandise. They know who is popular and when the company is doing well. Very few people understand this and take advantage of it, but John Cena was able to teach it to Cody Rhodes. “The Cenation Leader” knew his numbers while he was at the top in WWE, which is one of the reasons he maintained that level throughout his career.
Cena dominated many events because he knew his numbers
Whether it was his merchandise or ticket sales, Cena was able to understand the information he got and use it to his advantage. This is one of the main reasons why Cena was able to dominate main event venues for so long, and that’s something Rhodes is striving to emulate nowadays with his work ethic. The American Nightmare recently revealed that he checks the numbers for himself, is now working at the top end of the business and looks up to Cena for guidance and advice after that.
The American Nightmare takes guidance from Cena
Cody Rhodes stated that he gets the merch sheet and checks the percentage of everything sold at the garden. The Undisputed champion further revealed that he sends the sheet to John Cena because he knows the former champion will tell him the truth. Cena then praises Rhodes and asks him to watch other shows as well where he is not there.
Several wrestling fans don’t consider finances and dates when it comes to the business. This is the case for many wrestlers and it’s what sets the biggest names in the industry apart. Rhodes revealed that the best thing he learned as a talent is that they are constantly delusional. “I love confidence and swagger. You have to really know, How many tickets are we selling? How many shirts are we moving? The numbers, socially are so inflated. You have to really look at what the total was? What were the minute-by-minute ratings?” said Rhodes.
Rhodes being focused on the numbers while becoming one of the top stars in the company is probably not a coincidence. However, he admitted that many of his fellow wrestlers are not doing the same, which can be frustrating sometimes. Cody thinks that most wrestlers overestimate themselves as performers and it doesn’t compute.
