The undisputed WWE universal champion, Cody Rhodes, still wants a match with The Rock. He issued a challenge to the Final Boss a few months ago on the road to WrestleMania 40. Now, The American Nightmare has issued a cryptic warning on what we might get to see in the future. Cody has recently retained his undisputed WWE title against AJ Styles at WWE Backlash 2024. The main event match was Rhodes’ first title defense since dethroning The Tribal Chief on Night Two of WrestleMania 40.
Rhodes cryptic message for the Hollywood star
Cody Rhodes later appeared at the post-show conference and when asked about who he wants his next challenger to be, the champion gave an interesting response. The champion made a cryptic comment about wanting to face The Great One, who has recently turned 52. He also referred to The Rock returning a gift to him before going on a hiatus and said he would like to take something from him.
‘I’m not gonna say his name, he had his birthday the other day, but he returned me a gift that I did not appreciate, and when that man returns, I’d like to take something from him as well’, said Cody.
The story between The Rock and Rhodes is not over
The Hollywood star will not be back to the company at least for several months, but at one point there were rumors that WWE was planning to do The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes in a singles match at one of the future PLEs in Saudi Arabia, but that was not confirmed. Most probably, there will be some other idea for who should be Cody Rhodes’ next opponent after next Friday night’s SmackDown.

However, whenever The Rock decides to make a comeback to WWE, he might attack Cody Rhodes. Before leaving, the Hollywood star had an interesting confrontation with the new champion. He praised Cody for his big win over Roman Reigns but also said that whenever he is back, he will be after Rhodes. So The Final Boss might pull a surprise attack on Cody when he returns. The two had a big feud following WrestleMania XL and The Rock even attacked Cody so brutally, leaving him bloodied. So the story between them is definitely not over.
