The Undisputed WWE Universal champion, Cody Rhodes, has clarified some confusion on the recent Friday night of SmackDown, where it was revealed that Logan Paul will be his next challenger and will face the champion at the King & Queen of the Ring Premium live event. During the opening of the show, The American Nightmare and Paul cut promos on each other, deciding to fight in a champion vs. champion match, but it was unclear whether the winner would have both titles and whether each respective championship would be on line.
Cody confirmed the stipulation

WWE fans quickly went on social media to share their confusion. This appears to be the only champion vs. champion non-title match, if it were for both titles, the company would likely call it a “winner takes all” match. Cody Rhodes also posted a few tweets on Saturday to help clarify things. His most recent tweet said, “For all the gold.”
WWE needed the top-two names for event
If The American Nightmare wins, he will become both the Grand Slam Champion, WWE Undisputed Champion and Undisputed States Champion. If The Maverick wins, he becomes the United States Champion and WWE Champion. Now a title vs. title match, the confirmed stipulation has added another level of intrigue to the match. There are many questions in the minds of the fans, like, What if Paul becomes the WWE Champion? Or is it fair to give Cody two titles? This matchup was very unexpected. There was no feud between Paul and Rhodes prior to Friday’s episode of SmackDown. The two had not even crossed paths in a previous match or appeared to be looking for a fight. WWE is going back to its formula of putting two of its biggest superstars in the ring to make the event more intriguing.

The King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring final matches were definitely not enough for the event in Saudi Arabia. The company needed two high-profile stars in a match that would be memorable. A champion vs. champion match certainly serves that purpose. Also, it makes the outcome of the match predictable. It is hard to imagine a scenario where this match does not end in a no-contest or a disqualification. This is the easiest way to protect both champions, stay in the match, and avoid the titles changing owners.
