SummerSlam 2024 is now just a few days away from being held, but CM Punk’s status for the PLE remains certain. According to a report, the Chicago native was recently seen training at the WWE Performance Center, aiming to get medically cleared. While it is not confirmed yet, it is likely that Punk will be ready for the August 3 show. A PWInsider reported that Punk was working in the ring to get officially cleared by WWE’s medical team.
Punk got injured at Royal Rumble
CM Punk suffered an injury during the men’s Royal Rumble match in January. The match was his first televised appearance for WWE programming since returning to the company in November after being absent for a decade. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned and he lost the Royal Rumble to Cody Rhodes but was injured in the process. He has been out of action since then due to a torn triceps, though he has made several appearances on WWE programming.
The rivalry between Punk and Drew McIntyre has grown even more in the last few months. After the Royal Rumble, Punk inferred in McIntyre’s matches several times, spoiling his attempts to win the World Heavyweight Championship. The feud has set the stage for a potential showdown at SummerSlam, making their match one of the most anticipated clashes of the event. But Punk will have to be medically cleared first and him working in the ring is a good sign.
The company wants Punk to be fully healed
During a recent media interaction, CM Punk admitted that WWE is taking a cautious approach to his recovery, ensuring he is fully healed before returning to the ring. He also said that he would keep the full status of his injury timeline a secret. The company is being cautious and committed to his health and long-term well-being. If CM Punk does not get fully healed before the PLE, WWE has devised a backup plan featuring Seth Rollins as the Scottish Warrior’s opponent. Seth will prove to be a great replacement, but fans are still hoping to see CM Punk and McIntyre go one-on-one at the Biggest Party of the summer. The heated storyline between Punk and McIntyre has been carefully crafted, making it one of the biggest matches on the SummerSlam card.
