SummerSlam 2024 saw CM Punk fighting his first ever match in WWE after almost a decade. The second city saint clashed with Drew McIntyre in a match with Seth Rollins as special guest referee. The match between the Scottish warrior and Punk was definitely a cinematic masterpiece and arguably the best match of the night. This match has received a rating of five stars in every aspect, from wrestling, storytelling to sequences.
Wholesome moment at SummerSlam
In the end moments of the match, when the Chicago native was about to defeat McIntyre, Punk and Rollins got into an argument when Punk noticed Seth was wearing his armband, which had the name of his wife, AJ Lee and dog written on it. Punk then attacked “The Visionary” and gave him the GTS. This distraction gave Drew enough time to recover and he took advantage of this in taking down Punk. He quickly gave his opponent a Claymore kick called Seth Rollins. However, the most surprising and good moment came right after the match. In the video posted by WWE fans, CM Punk was seen hugging Stephanie McMahon, who was sitting in the crowd. He then whispered something in her ear.
WWE Universe knows the history between CM Punk and Stephanie McMahon and WWE management very well. Punk left the company in 2014 on a sour note and later revealed about his many conflicts with the management. In 2016, when Punk made his UFC debut and lost his debut fight within 2 minutes, Stephanie took a jibe at the Chicago native when the crowd chanted “CM Punk.”
“So if you guys could keep that up for about two minutes and 15 seconds, you’d last one second longer than Punk did,” said Stephanie.
Punk’s WWE return was the most shocking one
Given all the history between Punk and WWE management, when the “Cookie Master” made his WWE return last year, it was definitely a shock for everyone, as no one expected that he would show up at Survivor Series WarGames 2023. Punk’s return can clearly be called the most stunning and iconic comeback of this decade.
A few days back, when CM Punk appeared on the SI Media podcast, the 45-year-old revealed that he totally loves his current phase in WWE and if things were always like this, he would have never left the company. Punk also said that if Vince McMahon was still the WWE chairman, he would have never returned to WWE.
