WWE Clash at the Castle was held in Scotland, which is the home country of Drew McIntyre. Fans were sure that “The Scottish Warrior” would win the world title in his hometown. However, there were rumors that CM Punk was in town, and those rumors turned out to be true. The “Cookie Master” was in the building and yet again was responsible for McIntyre losing the world title match.
CM Punk came out as referee
Drew McIntyre appeared to be winning the match against Damian Priest on several occasions, but that was after the referee was knocked out of the ring moments before. McIntyre signaled for another official to come into the ring while the audience counted to three and beyond. Eventually, a referee arrived in the ring, counted to two and then stopped.
The Second City saint cost Drew the world title
It was at that moment that the Scottish Warrior turned around and saw that the replacement referee was CM Punk. Enraged Drew cornered Punk, and since he is presumably still recovering from a torn triceps, the Chicago native’s only defense was to kick McIntyre between the legs. By this time, Priest had recovered and the original referee was back in the ring. Punk went out, allowing Priest to finish the match and retain his world title.

This is the biggest blow Punk gave McIntyre. First, he was responsible for McIntyre losing the world title at WrestleMania just minutes after winning it. But this time, the level was above that. Drew had the chance to win the World Title in his home country, the first time WWE PLE was held in Scotland. This would have possibly been the best moment of his career, no matter what else he does and Punk stole that moment from him.
Not all Scottish superstars were left disappointed
Four Scottish Superstars challenged for the title at Clash at the Castle and gratefully, not all of them were denied their chance. Isla Dawn and Alba Fair delivered the biggest shock of the night, ending Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair’s tag title reign. Dawn pinned Shayna Baszler to win the title, meaning the champions were not even involved in the decision.
