He played a zealous knock of 131 runs off 84 balls embellished with 5 sixes & 16 fours which guided the team to an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their second fixture of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. During the course of this marvelous feat, Rohit breached Chris Gayle’s record of sixes in International cricket. With 555 sixes in 453 fixtures, Rohit now has the highest number of sixes in the International format. He has surpassed Universal Boss, Chris Gayle’s tally of 553 sixes on his name. After Rohit Sharma achieved the remarkable feat, Chris Gayle was quick to applaud him for his spectacular achievement.
Chris Gayle took to his Twitter account to congratulate Rohit Sharma. He wrote, “Congrats, @ImRo45 – Most Sixes in International cricket. #45 Special,” Gayle tweeted on Wednesday.
India’s Captain Rohit Sharma replied to Gayle’s tweet saying, “Thanks CG 4&5 on the back but our favorite number is 6”.
Not only this but our skip has broken several records en route to his 7th World Cup ton. He became the first batter to score seven tons in ODI World Cup history, surpassing India’s legend Sachin Tendulkar.
He further became the third-highest centurion in ODIs surpassing former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting’s tally of 28 tons. Now the first three positions in the ODI centuries are all occupied by Indian batters – Tendulkar (49), Virat Kohli (47), and Rohit Sharma (31).
