India’s men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy climbed to a career-best second slot in the most recent BWF rankings shortly after winning the Korea Open. To reach a new career-high men’s doubles ranking, Satwik and Chirag moved up one spot, unseating the Chinese team of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang whom they had defeated in the Korea Open semifinals. In the most recent badminton rankings announced by the Badminton World Federation on Tuesday, reigning Asian champions Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy advanced one spot to reach their all-time career-high rank of world No. 2. Three BWF World Tour championships, including the Indonesia Open (Super 1000), Korea Open (Super 500), and Swiss Open (Super 300), have been won by the Indian men’s doubles team this year. Chirag-Satwik hasn’t lost a final yet this year and is now unbeaten in 10 BWF World Tour matchups.
The world No. 1 Indonesian badminton team Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto were defeated by the Indian badminton players in the championship match on Sunday to win the Korea Open. In April, at the Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy also won the men’s doubles title, giving India its first triumph since 1965.
After falling to No. 17 in the world last week in the women’s singles rankings, PV Sindhu kept her place despite losing in the first round of the Korea Open. This is her lowest placing in ten years. But when it comes to women’s singles, PV Sindhu is the highest-ranked Indian. Next at position 37 in the world is Saina Nehwal.
Saina Nehwal, who won bronze at the London Olympics, fell one spot to position 37. The top-ranked shuttler in India is still HS Prannoy, who is currently ranked 10th in the men’s singles standings, which are currently being led by Viktor Axelsen.
