Chelsea vs Brighton: Preview
Chelsea form analysis
Chelsea’s form has been inconsistent with two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five games. On October 21st, they battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home with league leaders Arsenal. However, a week later Chelsea suffered a sobering 2-0 defeat away at Brentford. They responded by thrashing Tottenham 4-1 away in a fiery London derby on November 7th, inspired by a N’Golo Jackson hat-trick. But Chelsea then conceded four goals again as they drew 4-4 at home in a classic encounter with Manchester City, twice rallying from behind.
Most recently on November 25th, Chelsea were dismantled 4-1 away at high-flying Newcastle – Raheem Sterling’s goal a mere consolation. Defensively there are clear issues for Potter to address, with new signings Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly yet to convince. But in attack, the likes of Sterling, Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher offer a significant threat.
Brighton form analysis
Brighton’s recent form has been largely positive, with two wins, two draws and just one defeat from their last five games. On October 21st, they suffered a narrow 2-1 loss away at Manchester City despite a late Ansu Fati consolation. However, Brighton quickly bounced back by battling to a 1-1 home draw with Fulham a week later. This was followed by another 1-1 draw away at Everton on November 4th, capitalising on Alex Iwobi’s late own goal to claim a point.
The Seagulls then secured a gritty 1-1 home draw with Sheffield United as Adam Webster’s own goal cancelled out Simon Adingra’s early opener. Most recently on November 25th, Brighton impressed again by winning 3-2 away at Nottingham Forest – two goals from striker João Pedro proving decisive. De Zerbi has added steel to a side that dominated possession but struggled to convert it into wins. With dangerous attackers like Pedro, Evan Ferguson and Kaoru Mitoma, Brighton’s future looks bright.
