Celta Vigo vs Getafe: Preview
Celta Vigo form analysis
O Celtiña began September by winning an entertaining game 3-2 away at Almeria thanks to goals from Núñez, Strand Larsen and Swedberg. However, they then suffered a 0-1 home loss to Mallorca, outplayed despite dominating possession. Defensive issues persisted in a dramatic 2-3 home defeat to Barcelona, twice surrendering the lead to a late Lewandowski double. Celta did stop the rot by earning a 1-1 home draw with Alaves, going ahead through a Marín own goal. But problems at the back resurfaced last time out in a 1-2 loss away at Las Palmas, going ahead through Douvikas before a late collapse.
Overall, it’s been an up and down spell for Celta as they struggle for consistency. They’ve showcased attacking potential, with striker Larsen impressing. But silly defensive errors have cost them, highlighted in the late collapses against Barca and Las Palmas. If Carvalhal can retain Celta’s threat going forward while eradicating individual mistakes, results should steadily improve. But tightening up defensively is clearly crucial after conceding 11 goals in their last 5 games.
Getafe form analysis
Getafe had a 1-2 home loss to Real Madrid despite going ahead early through Mayoral. They responded by beating Osasuna 3-2 in an entertaining game thanks to goals from Mitrovic, Carmona and Maksimovic. However, defensive issues resurfaced in a thrilling 3-4 home loss to Real Sociedad, despite Mayoral and Latasa netting. Getafe then drew 2-2 away at Athletic Bilbao, twice pegged back after going ahead through Alvarez and Latasa strikes. Most recently, Getafe ground out a goalless away draw at Villarreal.
Overall, it’s been an up and down spell for Getafe under Quique Sanchez Flores as they struggle for consistency. They’ve showcased attacking potential, with new signing Latasa impressing. But sloppy defending has cost Getafe points, conceding 10 goals in their last 4 games. If Flores can retain their threat going forward while eradicating individual errors, Getafe can still enjoy a strong season. But substantially reducing the number of goals conceded is clearly essential now after this erratic spell.
