Cameron Green: A Year of Success and Burnout
Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder, has had a rollercoaster year in 2023. He experienced both success and a few lean patches, with a maiden century in test, a successful stint in IPL for Mumbai Indians and multiple drops from the Aussie side as failed to be consistent in last few months.
Green’s year started with success. He was part of the Australian team that won the World Test Championship final and scored his maiden Test ton in the series against India at Ahmedabad.
However, he was also dropped from the starting XI during Australia’s victorious ODI Cricket World Cup campaign and didn’t get a chance to play in the final against India because there was a slump in his white-ball performance.
Green’s packed schedule took a toll on him, and he admitted to being “cooked” by the end of the year. “I knew what was coming up. But you’ve still got to go through it,” he said.
“By the end I was pretty cooked. But you can’t really make excuses because you put your own hand up for the IPL. It was a tough six months, but with a lot of success throughout it. So no regrets at all.”
Back Home and Focused on Red-Ball Cricket for Green
Green is now back home in Australia and has turned his attentions to rediscovering the rhythm of red-ball cricket, in a bid to regain his place in the Test side. He is determined to put his burnout behind him and get back to his best form.
Green’s admission of burnout could go some way to explaining the issues around his form in 2023. He was replaced by Mitch Marsh in the Ashes and overlooked in favour of Marnus Labuschagne and Marcus Stoinis after Travis Head returned for the Aussies at the ODI World Cup.
A New IPL Shift on the Horizon for Cameron Green

In a sensational move, Cameron Green bids farewell to the Mumbai Indians, joining forces with Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). MI, on the other hand, has traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans, an experienced all-rounder who has previously played for MI from 2015 to 2021.
His relentless dedication, evident in his scant two nights at home between January and August, has earned him this coveted spot. Green is a talented cricketer with a bright future. If he can manage his workload and avoid burnout, he could be a key player for Australia for many years to come.
