Cadiz vs Real Sociedad: Preview
Cadiz form analysis
Cadiz came into this run of fixtures sitting in the La Liga relegation zone after a very poor start to the 2022/23 season. On November 26th, they suffered a heavy 0-3 home loss to champions Real Madrid, unable to contain Rodrygo’s double and summer signing Bellingham’s neat finish. Cadiz stopped the rot with a credible 1-1 away draw against Mallorca on November 30th thanks to Alcaraz’s early opener before conceding to Prats. They battled to another 1-1 away draw at Celta Vigo on December 5th, taking the lead through Chris Ramos before conceding to Norwegian striker Strand Larsen and having defender Chust sent off.
Back at home four days later, Cadiz claimed a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Osasuna courtesy of Roger’s strike before conceding a controversial late penalty converted by Budimir. Most recently away at Las Palmas on December 17th, Cadiz had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw after conceding early to Pejiño before Chris Ramos levelled late on. Overall it has been a solid run of form for Cadiz, stabilising after a poor start to the season. Whether they can build on these improved displays to climb out of the relegation zone remains to be seen.
Real Sociedad form analysis
Real Sociedad came into this run of fixtures pushing for a top four spot after an impressive start to the season. They secured an excellent 1-3 away win at Almeria on November 11th, courtesy of goals from star man Oyarzabal, super sub Fernández’s late penalty and Zubimendi’s stoppage time strike. Sociedad made it back-to-back wins by defeating Sevilla 2-1 at home on November 26th thanks to own goal heroics from visiting keeper Dmitrović and Nigerian striker Sadiq before holding off a late Sevilla fightback.
However, their winning run was halted by a hard fought 1-1 away draw at Osasuna on December 3rd, with Sadiq cancelling out Moi Gómez’s shock early opener. Sociedad bounced back with an emphatic 0-3 away win at Villareal on December 9th thanks to goals from Merino, Zubimendi and exciting Japanese loanee Kubo. Most recently at home against high flying Real Betis, Sociedad ground out a solid 0-0 draw. Overall, Sociedad’s domestic form has been very strong recently, built on an organized defense and clinical finishing from the likes of Sadiq and captain Oyarzabal. Maintaining this form could be crucial for their hopes of a top four finish this term.
