Cadiz vs Girona: Preview
Cadiz form analysis
El Submarino Amarillo began September in excellent fashion, beating Villarreal 3-1 at home with Machis netting twice. However, a reality check followed as they were comfortably beaten 0-3 at home by Athletic Bilbao. Cadiz did bounce back to claim a creditable 1-1 away draw against Real Betis, taking the lead through Ramos before Rodriguez equalized. They built on that by grinding out a 0-0 home draw with Rayo Vallecano last time out. But defensive issues resurfaced in a dramatic 2-3 home loss to Atletico Madrid most recently, twice going ahead before capitulating late on.
Overall, Cadiz have been fairly solid, keeping games tight against superior opposition like Betis and Rayo. At their best, they have shown they can trouble good teams, as evidenced in the win over Villarreal. However, a lack of consistency has been an issue, highlighted in the heavy loss to Bilbao. If Cadiz can build on positives like the draws with Betis and Rayo and turn the Atletico defeat into a learning experience, they have a good chance of avoiding relegation this season.
Girona form analysis
Girona began September with a vital 1-0 home win over Las Palmas thanks to Portu’s late goal. They built on that with an impressive 4-2 away victory at Granada, led by goals from Tsygankov, Savio and Lopez. Girona’s best display came in thrashing Mallorca 5-3 at home, inspired by an Alegria brace and other goals from Lopez, Martin and Herrera. They followed that up with an excellent 2-1 away win at Villarreal, coming from behind to win through goals from Dovbyk and Garcia. However, Girona were then comfortably beaten 0-3 at home by Real Madrid last time out.
Overall, it’s been an encouraging start on Girona’s La Liga return under Michel as they target survival this term. They’ve showcased real attacking threat, scoring 12 goals in their opening 5 games. New signings like Tsygankov and Alegria have impressed. However, there have been some defensive concerns, conceding 8 times already. If Girona can maintain their threat going forward while tightening up at the back, they have an excellent chance of avoiding relegation this season based on the opening weeks.
